Peter’s Declaration about Jesus

18One day Jesus left the crowds to pray alone. The Transfiguration

28About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray.G1161G1096G5616G3638G2250G3326G5128G3056G2532G3880G4074G2532G2491G2532G2385G305G1519G3735G4336 29And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was transformed, and his clothes became dazzling white.G2532G1722G846G4336G1491G846G4383G1096G2087G2532G846G2441G3022G1823 30Suddenly, two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking with Jesus.G2532G2400G4814G846G1417G435G3748G2258G3475G2532G2243 31They were glorious to see. And they were speaking about his exodus from this world, which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem.G3739G3700G1722G1391G3004G846G1841G3739G3195G4137G1722G2419 32Peter and the others had fallen asleep. When they woke up, they saw Jesus' glory and the two men standing with him.G1161G4074G2532G4862G846G2258G916G5258G1161G1235G1492G846G1391G2532G1417G435G4921G846 33As Moses and Elijah were starting to leave, Peter, not even knowing what he was saying, blurted out, "Master, it's wonderful for us to be here! Let's make three shelters as memorialsc—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."G2532G1096G1722G846G1316G575G846G4074G2036G4314G2424G1988G2076G2570G2248G1511G5602G2532G4160G5140G4633G3391G4671G2532G3391G3475G2532G3391G2243G3361G1492G3739G3004 34But even as he was saying this, a cloud overshadowed them, and terror gripped them as the cloud covered them.G1161G846G5023G3004G1096G3507G2532G1982G846G1161G5399G1722G1565G1525G1519G3507 35Then a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, my Chosen Onec. Listen to him."G2532G1096G5456G1537G3507G3004G3778G2076G3450G27G5207G191G846 36When the voice finished, Jesus was there alone. Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

37The next day, after they had come down the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus.G1161G1096G1722G1836G2250G846G2718G575G3735G4183G3793G4876G846 38A man in the crowd called out to him, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, my only child.G2532G2400G435G575G3793G310G3004G1320G1189G4675G1914G1909G3450G5207G3754G2076G3427G3439 39An evil spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It batters him and hardly ever leaves him alone.G2532G2400G4151G2983G846G2532G1810G2896G2532G4682G846G876G3326G2532G4937G846G3425G672G575G846 40I begged your disciples to cast out the spirit, but they couldn't do it."G2532G1189G4675G3101G2443G1544G846G1544G2532G1410G3756 41Jesus said, "You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you and put up with you?" Then he said to the man, "Bring your son here."G1161G2424G611G2036G5599G571G2532G1294G1074G2193G4219G2071G4314G5209G2532G430G5216G4317G4675G5207G5602 42As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a violent convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evilc spirit and healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his father.G1161G846G4334G2089G4334G1140G4486G846G4486G2532G4952G1161G2424G2008G169G4151G2532G2390G3816G2532G591G846G591G846G3962

Jesus Again Predicts His Death

43Awe gripped the people as they saw this majestic display of God's power. While everyone was marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples,G1161G1605G3956G1605G1909G3168G2316G1161G2296G3956G1909G3956G3739G2424G4160G2036G4314G846G3101 44"Listen to me and remember what I say. The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies."G5128G3056G5087G1519G5210G5216G3775G1063G5207G444G3195G3860G1519G5495G444 45But they didn't know what he meant. Its significance was hidden from them, so they couldn't understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.G1161G50G5124G4487G2532G2258G3871G575G846G3363G143G846G3363G2532G5399G2065G846G4012G5127G4487

The Greatest in the Kingdom

46Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest.G1161G1525G1261G1722G846G5101G302G846G1498G3187 47But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side.G1161G2424G1492G1261G846G2588G1949G3813G2476G846G3844G1438 48Then he said to them, "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalfc welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest."G2532G2036G846G3739G1437G1209G5124G3813G1909G3450G3686G1209G1691G2532G3739G1437G1209G1691G1209G649G3165G1063G5225G3398G1722G5213G3956G3778G2071G3173

Using the Name of Jesus

49John said to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn't in our group."G1161G2491G611G2036G1988G1492G5100G1544G1140G1909G4675G3686G2532G2967G846G3754G190G3756G3326G2257 50But Jesus said, "Don't stop him! Opposition from Samaritans

51As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.G1161G1096G1722G2250G4845G846G354G2532G846G4741G846G4383G4198G1519G2419 52He sent messengers ahead to a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival.G2532G649G32G4253G846G4383G2532G4198G1525G1519G2968G4541G5620G2090G846 53But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem.G2532G1209G3756G1209G846G3754G846G4383G2258G4198G1519G2419 54When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, "Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them upc?"G1161G846G3101G2385G2532G2491G1492G2036G2962G2309G2036G4442G2597G575G3772G2532G355G846G2532G5613G2243G4160 55But Jesus turned and rebuked themc.G1161G4762G2008G846G2532G2036G1492G3756G3634G4151G5210G2075 56So they went on to another village.G1063G5207G444G2064G3756G2064G622G444G5590G235G4982G2532G4198G1519G2087G2968

Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving

21At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.G1722G846G5610G2424G21G4151G2532G2036G1843G4671G3962G2962G3772G2532G1093G3754G613G5023G575G4680G2532G4908G2532G601G846G3516G3483G3962G3754G3779G1096G2107G1715G4675G1715 22"My Father has entrusted everything to me. The Most Important Commandment

25One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: "Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?"G2532G2400G5100G3544G450G2532G1598G846G3004G1320G5101G4160G2816G166G2222 26Jesus replied, "What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?"G1161G2036G4314G846G5101G1125G1722G3551G4459G314 27The man answered, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.' And, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"cG1161G611G2036G25G2962G4675G2316G1537G3650G4675G2588G2532G1537G3650G4675G5590G2532G1537G3650G4675G2479G2532G1537G3650G4675G1271G2532G4675G4139G5613G4572 28"Right!" Jesus told him. "Do this and you will live!"G1161G2036G846G611G3723G5124G4160G2532G2198 29The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"G1161G2309G1344G1438G2036G4314G2424G2532G5101G2076G3450G4139

Parable of the Good Samaritan

30Jesus replied with a story: "A Jewish man was traveling on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road.G1161G2424G5274G2036G5100G444G2597G575G2419G1519G2410G2532G4045G3027G3739G2532G1562G846G1562G2532G4127G2007G565G863G2253G5177 31"By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.G1161G2596G4795G2597G5100G2409G1722G1565G3598G2532G1492G846G492 32A Temple assistantc walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side.G1161G3668G2532G3019G1096G2596G5117G2064G2532G1492G492 33"Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.G1161G5100G4541G3593G2064G2596G846G2532G1492G846G4697 34Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.G2532G4334G2611G846G5134G2022G1637G2532G3631G1161G1913G846G1909G2398G2934G71G846G1519G3829G2532G1959G846 35The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coinsc, telling him, 'Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I'll pay you the next time I'm here.'G2532G1909G839G1831G1544G1417G1220G1325G3830G2532G2036G846G1959G846G2532G3748G302G4325G3165G1722G1880G1473G591G4671 36"Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?" Jesus asked.G5101G3767G5130G5140G1380G4671G1096G4139G1706G1519G3027 37The man replied, "The one who showed him mercy." Then Jesus said, "Yes, now go and do the same."G1161G2036G4160G1656G3326G846G3767G2036G2424G846G4198G2532G4160G4771G3668

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

38As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.G1161G1096G1722G846G4198G2532G846G1525G1519G5100G2968G1161G5100G1135G3686G3136G5264G846G1519G846G3624 39Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what he taught.G2532G3592G2258G79G2564G3137G3739G2532G3869G3844G2424G4228G191G846G3056 40But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me."G1161G3136G4049G4012G4183G1248G1161G2186G2036G2962G3199G4671G3756G3199G3754G3450G79G2641G3165G1247G3441G2036G846G3767G2443G4878G3427 41But the Lord said to her, "My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!G1161G2424G611G2036G846G3136G3136G3309G2532G5182G4012G4183 42There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her."G1161G1520G2076G5532G1161G3137G1586G18G3310G3748G851G3756G851G575G846
